The State Hermitage Museum, founded by Catherine the Great in 1764, is one of the world’s oldest and largest museums in the world.  Its collections constitute more than three million works of art and artifacts, including the world’s largest collection of paintings.

The museum’s Digital Collection, a collaborative project between the Hermitage & IBM,  is the first stage of an ambitious project that aiming to digitize the Hermitage’s entire collection… Advanced technology allows users to search the collection using both keyword and visual criteria, and to view artwork from multiple perspectives.
